Information about the school internship (practical semester BW)

Purpose and duration

As part of the reorganization of training for the higher teaching profession, part of the preparatory service (Referendariat) was brought forward into the study period. This shortens the duration of the preparatory service to 18 months, with a ten-week practical semester to be completed during the course of study.

The school internship lasts a total of 10 weeks.

1st module: 4 weeks

2nd module: 3 weeks

3rd module: 3 weeks

The internship semester must include at least one closed 4-week block in order to receive credit. School vacations are not considered an interruption of the 4-week block, but extend the school internship accordingly. Accordingly, Module 1 can only be taken in the spring and Modules 2 and 3 can only be taken in the fall.

Modularized practical semester

The school internship is divided into 3 modules. The 1st module should be taken after the 5th semester in the spring, the 2nd module after the 6th semester in the fall, and the 3rd module after the 2nd semester of the master's program in the fall. Thus, the first two modules should be taken in conjunction with the bachelor's program, and the 3rd module should be taken in conjunction with the master's program. It is possible to deviate from the recommended semester references. For example, module 2 can also be taken after the 8th semester of the Bachelor's program or after the 2nd semester of the Master's program.

Choice of school

The school internship must be completed at a commercial school in Baden-Württemberg where your subjects of study are taught to a sufficient extent.

Note: If possible, the school at which a student obtained the Abitur should not be chosen. It should be noted that the one-time choice of school is binding across all 3 modules. A change of school is not possible.
